Margaret dobbins
The private lessons Margaret experienced as a child started her exploration of color and design in her art, culminating in a Bachelors of Arts degree from Lamar University. Growing up in Beaumont, Texas adjacent to a wooded area allowed her to develop an appreciation of nature and expand her imagination.
During her studies at Lamar University, she continued her interest in composition and color. Discovering abstract expressionist art contributed to more experimentation with various art processes.
Dobbins looks to many influences in her environment as motivators and always asks "what if" in the process of painting. Other inspirations are music, animals and creative play with art materials. Well known for her abstract paintings, she allows the paintings to evolve into something unexpected. Recently, to her surprise a series of abstracts transformed into horse paintings.
With over 40 years of experience, Dobbins has been represented by several Texas and Arizona galleries and has held over 20 solo exhibitions. She was a Finalist in the prestigious Hunting Art Prize in 2007, 2009 and 2011. Her works are in numerous private and corporate collections in the United States and abroad.
Corporate collections include Chevron Corporation, in the U.S. and abroad. St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, OK. Texas collections include: Memorial Herman Hospital Tower, The Woodlands, St. Martins Episcopal Church, Katy Hospital, Katy, Chapelwood Methodist Church and numerous others
